Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of Management Committee, led the flag hoisting ceremony at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) headquarters on the occasion of 77th Independence Day.

Ashraf was accompanied by PCB COO Salman Naseer and other high-ups. Former cricketer Sarfaraz Nawaz and wicketkeeper batter Zulqarnain Haider were also present on the occasion.

Players, who are part of Afghanistan ODI series, were also there during the celebration.

14 August-themed cake was also cut during the ceremony followed by the plantation of a tree.

As Pakistan celebrates its 77th Independence Day on August 14 (today), the national athletes also prayed for country's prosperity.

Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Rizwan, Hassan Ali, Umar Akmal, Shaheen Shah Afridi, squash player Noorena Shams, Pakistan's world wrestling icon Inam Butt, and Olympian weightlifter Talha Talib also wished Independence Day.

President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) President Asif Ali Zardari, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari extended heartfelt congratulations to the nation on the occasion of 77th Independence Day.

The day commenced with special prayers for the country's prosperity and unity, an apt prayer given the turmoil on the political and economic fronts.

Moreover, a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in all provincial capitals were made as a tribute to the country that has weathered many a storm.
